About: Wycombe Hospital

What I liked

Very hospitable reception and made to feel at ease. On day of surgery I was reassured by other patients who had undergone endarterectomy that I would be okay. I felt very confident with my surgeon . One drawback was I did not go down for surgery until 3.30pm whereas they had planned for am surgery and it was then too long a period without fluids. This is a contributary reason for very low blood pressure in recovery so I was told. This type of surgery, where there might be a post operative concern should be performed early enough so if any concerns arise staff is available to deal with. I had to be watched by a paedeatric consultant anaethsetist as they were worried about my low blood pressure, which was frightening at the time as all relevant staff had left earlier in the evening. That is my one and only concern.

What could be improved

Earlier surgery as explained above. I was kept in recovery for 6 hours without them being able to consult with my surgeon or anaethsetist regarding low blood pressure.

Anything else?

I am expecting to have to come in during 2011 for a second endarterectomy on the other side. This time providing I have the reassurance of my same consultant, I am sure I shall not have the same apprehension and fear.
