Living in th e south of Kirklees we both opted to attend Barnsley District Hospital as access is much easier than our nearest facility in West Yorkshire.
Having both been career nurses we were unsure what to expect as we had little contact with this facility in the past.
To say we were pleasantly surprised is a gross understatement. We were treated as human individuals with our own specific health needs. The environment was clean and well laid out and the staff eager to help when approached. The only negative issue we faced at all was the slow speed of a departmental computer early morning when lots of others were logging on. The member of staff concerned expressed some embarrassment but it came right in the end.
As an ex senior nursing manager I found it both reassuring and confidence building to deal with people who were dressed as professionals, and not unkempt as one often witnesses nowadays.
Our health issues were dealt with promptly and efficiently, and on the last occasion we were seen before our allocated time which was a great help.
Finally it seems obvious to us that much thought has been put into car parking which is very straightforward and not overpriced.
Having discussed our experiences with ex colleagues it soon became apparent that others were having similar experiences.
