"Rushed"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

An ultrasound scan in 2014 showed ‘possible malignancy’ in my thyroid, according to my Endocrinology Professor, who arranged an urgent F.N.A. (biopsy) but I did not attend. Recently I have started having problems with my voice along with other symptoms in my throat, difficulty swallowing etc. Because of this and another suspicious scan showing a double duct sign that has suddenly increased in size that I also should have had biopsied, my family finally persuaded me to get checked out.

Last week my G.P. referred me through the cancer pathway referral. In just 6 days I had my E.N.T. appointment. However, the consultation with the E.N.T. doctor was over within minutes. I did not have time to fully explain my symptoms I felt rushed and concerned that the doctor did not examine my throat. The doctor also appeared to be rushed and commented that we were only ‘given 5/10 minutes for today’ and an appointment for 6 weeks time would be made.

The doctor informed me and my husband that thyroid cancer is very slow growing and doesn’t cause much of an issue. Despite other doctors and a professors concerns, I have been taken off the two week pathway and a routine biopsy has been arranged.

My next clinic appointment has arrived but will the doctor have my results in time?
