"I have been I have been left in limbo"

About: Fife Community Services / Community Mental Health Stratheden Hospital / Adult mental health

(as the patient),

After having appointments continual for nearly 5 months with CPN and then nearly 15 months with a psychologist and then discharged from the service without making sure of stability apart from a few phone conversations in 2017.

My situation started worsening in December 2016 and continued to do so. I was completely honest about my situation in written contact I had with psychologist following a final phone call appointment that things had not changed but had worsened and how. I then received a letter from the psychologist stating that it seemed like I required on going support. To which options were suggested that had already been suggested and highlighted as NOT suitable or safe for me. I have been left in a limbo of suicidal ideation with no support and left to feel I am beyond all help and unsure if I can honestly trust anyone.

Dear mojomonkey1960

Our Patient Relations Department passed on your story about your experiences within the Fife Psychology Service, posted recently on the Care Opinion site.

Firstly, I am concerned that you report continuing to feel suicidal and I would strongly encourage you, if you feel in need of urgent help, to contact your GP or alternatively the A&E department at Victoria Hospital or the Police by phoning 101.

Secondly, I would like to offer my apologies on behalf of our service for the experience that you report. It sounds from your account that we failed to adequately meet your needs and that you do not feel that your views were heard or understood. Again, I apologise for that.

I appreciate the time that you have taken to give your opinion. If you feel able to provide NHS Fife Patient Relations with your name and date of birth then we can investigate your experience and learn from it. Either I or one of my Consultant colleagues would be more than happy to speak to you about it either by telephone or in person.Thank you for getting in touch.

Kind regards

Dr Frances Baty,
Head, Adult Mental Health Psychology Service
Fife Health and Social Care Partnership

Update posted by mojomonkey1960 (the patient)

While I appreciate the response and apologise for the time it has taken for me to reply. My situation has not improved but instead has become much more severe. My being suicidal was known about for sometime before I was discharged from the service. It was also known that I was struggling really badly with flashbacks and nightmares. This situation has escalated further to the point that I am severely retraumatised about events from my past that the appointments I had were meant to have helped with. Instead however I remain unsupported and left feeling like I am getting blamed and punished for being unable to move forward with my life.

This situation still hasn't been resolved despite receiving a letter near the end of March offering a telephone conversation. I provided the details requested and despite contacting again more recently to find out what was happening have heard nothing.

it has been nearly 2 years since I first posted nothing really changed. Also I believe I may have been given the wrong contact information for the department.
