I wanted to say a huge thank you to all the staff who dealt with me when I was admitted to the ward in an emergency.
All of the staff worked tirelessly with me at 3 am to ensure I was pain free as quickly as possible.
I knew I had an ovarian cyst as it had been identified on an MRI scan, which I had done privately.
I was able to share the results with the staff who then were able to use this information with my consultant.
In the morning it was suggested that I contact the hosiptal where I had had the scan to authorise the results of the MRI to be sent over, which I did.
Unfortunately the hospital were less than helpful and when I spoke to the nurse in charge that morning, they were not going to let this happen.
On several occassions during the day they kept me well informed of what was happening with the transfer of the MRI report.
Throughout the day I was incredibly well cared for and felt a bit of a fraud as the pain has subsided, but still knew the surgery needed to be completed.
I was booked as an emergency, however it was clearly explained that in this situations other emergencies take priority, which is totally understandable.
Every member of staff on this ward was fantastic, the level of care I received was phenomenal.
It is only in this situation you realise some of the unpleasant situations they have to deal with be it the nature of a dressing, helping someone go to the toilet, getting people dressed, helping put on underwear and unfortunately dealing with incredibly rude people and all the time completed with a smile, kind word or gesture.
When I realised i was not having my operation completed on the Monday, food was brought quickly for me as I had not eaten since breakfast the previous day.
On Tuesday different faces, but still the same kind, caring nature.
Again, throughout the day I was informed as to what was happening and when I would be operated on.
At 5.30 a lovely young man came and took me down to surgery where again I was met with smiley faces who reassured me and put me at ease.
The after care was wonderful.
On returning back to the ward, again I was met with staff who made me feel at ease and looked after me fantastcially. Wednesday new faces and this time a Ward nurse who had the most fantastic sense of humour, who totally lifted the mood of the ward and encouraged plenty of laughter and all the patients to chat and laugh.
Talk about laughter being the best medicine...even if it hurt to laugh!! I cannot thank them enough for all they did for me and the kindness they showed on Ward 23!
