"Waiting for a CT scan"

About: Russells Hall Hospital

(as the patient),

I have cancer. When I was told that the cancer count in my blood test was rising, I was told that I would need a CT scan to see what was happening. I then had to chase the scan department myself as I'd heard nothing for 5 weeks. I was told I would receive appointment shortly & it came for exactly 6 weeks after seeing the oncologist. Then I have to wait a further 2 weeks after scan to see oncologist fir the results. That will be 2 whole months of this cancer growing inside me before I find out what anyone is going to do about it. Do you really think this is acceptable? Cancer brings enough worry with it without the added worry of " nothing being done about it" for 8 weeks! ! ! Please please do not put other cancer patients through this & let them get scans much much quicker. Also get results quicker as I'm sure if I was in a car accident & needed a scan quickly that the doctor looking after me in A&E wouldn't keep me there 2 weeks before finding out my internal injuries.

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback about Russells Hall Hospital. We are very sorry that you have been so disappointed with the care you have received, and for the time you have waited for your results. We appreciate how frustrating this must have been, especially at such a worrying time.

It is difficult to comment further on your specific experience without your own details and reviewing your medical notes. Please get in touch with our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on free phone 0800 073 0510 who will be happy to help in any way they can.

How would seeing my notes help? It still doesn't answer the question why a 6 week wait for a scan and then another 2 weeks to get the result. I now know my cancer is spreading and I now have another 3 week wait before chemo starts. Doesn't anyone care? Nearly 3 months from being told my count was rising to getting treatment, is that in the Government guidelines? I know I will lose my hair in chemo but with the stress of this whole debacle, it will have dropped out before any chemicals touch me. My family and I are beside ourselves with the worry of this.
