"Short stay ward"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Acute Short Stay Medicine

(as the patient),

In November 2014 was taken by ambulance to ARI with a suspected (by my GP) blood clot in the lungs at 4am it wasn't until 5pm that they sent me for a vq scan were it was confirmed I had numerous PE but it wasn't till 8pm I received any drugs.

I was told that I was to stay for 4-5 days until my inr was in range, but I had to sign myself out because of the staff on the ward, there was one nurse in particular that was unkind and god knows why they are a nurse! At 6 in the morning she shouted "everyone up, we are up so should you! (We are patients some very ill, and youre working! ) This same nurse spoke about patients behind their backs it was horrendous.

I felt the cleaning was atrocious. when I was admitted onto the ward there was an apple behind the bed I told the staff and nothing done, at dinner time I nipped to the loo when I came back the cleaner had put this dirty Apple on my tray! The bathrooms were filthy. the cleaner would mop it out and keep mopping into the ward with the same water! I hope to god things have changed..

Hi Muggiemae, I was really sorry to read your story about the care you recieved during your admission in 2014 please accept my apologies. From your story I can see we did not meet the standard of care or cleanliness we strive to deliver and this is very dissapointing for us to hear. I just want to reassure you that changes and improvements have and do take place all the time in the service using patient feedback and staff ideas we are always looking at ways to deliver the care you need when you need it.

Thank you for sharing your story.

Best wishes

Kerry
