About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital / General medicine

My 91 year old mother was admitted to the short stay ward at the QE hospital on 8th August 2017 after complaining of shortness of breath and atrial fibrillation.

I visited her at 4.30pm on the 8th and following a chat with my mother who is very deaf and confused I decided to ask the staff for a quick update as to what was happening treatment etc.

I spoke with a nurse who pointed to another nurse and indicated that they were the person to speak to and who almost immediately said "I'm doing my tablets!" the nurse told me that this other nurse would speak with me shortly when they were free.

I sat and waited for almost 30 minutes and during that time the nurse passed my mothers room 4 or 5 times and they didn't appear to be busy, they actually looked into the room every time!, at one point they stood in the middle of the corridor outside the room where I was waiting with my mother adjusting their hair and talking to other nurses.

My time ran out and I had to leave without any update, poor show QE this nurse isn't doing your supposed good reputation any good.

We're sorry to hear about your experience and what you describe certainly falls short of what we expect for all our patients.

You can contact our PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) on 0800 653 0667 or pals@ghnt.nhs.uk. They can collect some more details from you and look into what happened in your case on your behalf.
