"Colposcopy clinic being suspended"

About: Liverpool Womens Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

Referred by GP and on the patient choice I chose Women's hospital. I later received a letter to say I was being teansfered to StHelens as Women's Colposcopy clinic suspended.

When I telephoned hospital I was informed there was no staff as 4/5 staff were on long term absence. I said I would wait until reopens but was told dept. closed for the foreseeable and I would not be seen there. All my notes and past history is at Women's not at St Helens.

Surely this dept. could be staffed -I feel you could employ some staff rather than possibly putting extra pressure on other hospitals and force patients to go to hospitals they don't want to go to.

'patient choice' I am not being given a choice. Then I received an appointment for gynacology which was cancelled by hospital as this appointment was made in error, to then receive a letter to say I failed to attend the appointment and my GP was being informed.

No I did not fail to attend the hospital cancelled it. When calling staff only seem to listen to half my issue. Never received such a poor service from the Women's in over 20years of attend the hospital.

Thank you for contacting us regarding your concerns about the experience you have had in awaiting your Colposcopy Procedure. Due to unforeseen sickness absence the colposcopy service has had to be suspended and patients transferred to other clinics in the area to prevent delay in their diagnosis and treatment. We endeavour to ensure that all of our Patient’s experiences are positive and prevent anxieties being caused for patient’s.

I have asked the Administration team in the booking of appointments to review the process in relation to the issues you have raised about being informed by letter you had cancelled your appointment. This was obviously very frustrating for you and I apologise. We will review the letter system which is currently in place to prevent this situation from happening again to yourself or any other patient.

I apologise that your concerns were not listened to and acted upon when you contacted the hospital and will discuss this with the managers of that department to reinforce to their teams that the Trust expects anyone contacting the Trust to be given the chance to be listened to and be treated with respect and understanding.

If you would like to discuss your case in more detail please contact our PALS department on 0151 702 4353 or PALS@Lwh.nhs.uk who will be able to arrange a suitable time for us to discuss this matter further.

Regards
