"No communication with me to diagnose problem"

About: Essex Southend Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a service user),

Last year I broke my hand/radius, on holiday, abroad.

Returned, the doctor plastered it for three weeks. Felt better.

This year, since April, I have pain on the other side; numbness in two fingers; fine mobility being the most affected (brushing teeth, hair-when doing circular movements). Asked appointment from GP, twice during a month.

Finally, succeeded!

GP asked me to find myself an appointment on the computer... I did.

end of July!

So from the end of April until the end of July, I had to wait!

At the clinic, the doctor, polite and mannered asked me where do I work, since when I am in the UK and what is the problem. Told him.

Checked my hand, started to write something on a paper, talked to the nurse BUT not a single word about my pain/reason.

Asked me to go to the desk, give the papers and wait for an appointment to Physiotherapy, by post.

Today arrived the appointment.

No diagnosis.

Nothing mentioning WHY do I have the pain, what kind of treatment I will follow, nothing!

My question is: How can you treat a patient without communication?

What kind of work is this when you do not ask, do not listen do not request information and details, to build a case, to make sure that your 'diagnostic' is the right one?

I do not question anybody's professionalism but I am intrigued by this mechanical medical check-up!

I can talk!

I want to talk to solve my health problem!

Dear Sir/Madam

We are sorry to hear you were not happy with your appointment and suggest you contact your GP for another referral if you are not happy.

Unfortunately via this site we do not have your personal details to check and comment on your personal issues.

Alternatively please contact pals at pals@southend.nhs.uk who can advise further looking at your personal details.

Again, apologies for your disappointment.

Regards,

Patient Involvement

I am wondering what is the point to tell your story, on here, if there is no solution for it?!

Saying 'Sorry' doesn't resolve anything! Being over polite, either!

We have to look at the problem, otherwise, it is just a waste of my time and yours!

Kind regards,

PM

Dear Sir/Madam,

You are absolutely correct we do look at issues and try to resolve as best we can.

I am afraid as mentioned in the original response we are unable to look at specific issues via this site as would need personal identifiable information as every person's situation is different and some would need a medical opinion.

We respond to these comments and pass to departments and make service improvements as a result of comments but this would not be the site to discuss and resolve problems hence we suggest contacting pals who can take your personal details and contact the relevant department.

I hope this helps with your query.

Regards,

Patient Involvement Team
