"Dismissed and felt stupid"

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital / Accident and emergency

I took my grandad to a&e on a Monday evening worried he had symptoms of a stroke.

It was extremely busy I appreciate that. There were people running around screaming and crying but not there to be checked in. A poor man covered in blood dripping every where he did not even get offered a tissue.

We were huffed at and made to feel like we were wasting time.

After 2 hours 30 minutes I asked how long we will be waiting. The said another 3/4 hours from now.

I left and went home took my grandad back the following morning and was in a&e all day as he had suffered a stroke. The nurses were disgusted this was not picked up.

I am sorry to hear of your experience with your grandad and the upset this has caused you. Your description of events would certainly not what we would want for our patients or relatives.

We would welcome the opportunity to ask a senior member of the Team involved to discuss this with you. If this is something you would be interested in then please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0800 917 6039 or by email at PHT.PALS@porthosp.nhs.uk so that they can raise your concerns with the appropriate person.

I do hope your grandad makes a good recovery and wish him well for the future.

Kind regards.

Debbie
