"Catheter Problems"

About: The Royal London Hospital

Sunday night (30/07) I had to visit A&E because of Faecal impaction and urinary retention and this involved inserting a catheter. Rather than return home with the catheter I had it removed recognising the risk of the urinary retention continuing. This was not the case as I have no problem urinating except that this is very painful - I suspect that the catheter was removed badly damaging my urethra - possibly because the nurse was displeased with me asking for the catheter being removed in the hospital rather than later at home. To reiterate, I have no problem passing urine but will have to see my GP because of the severe pain when I do so. Further, I suspect that part of the problem is that I am I'm my mid seventies and hence seen as non-compos mentis!

We're sorry your experience at the hospital wasn't to the usual high standard we strive for on a daily basis.

If you would like for us to investigate this, then please contact the PALS Team by email: pals@bartshealth.nhs.uk

Kind Regards,

Barts Health NHS Trust
