I am sadden to write a story of complaint rather than one of praise as I have always previously been an advocate for the NHS,
After years of unsuccessful attempts to conceive I decided to take action and find out if I had a problem, after many appointments I was advised I had a split uterus and that conceiving would be difficult, I went away disheartened but still wanted to try skip forward to another appointment where I found it wasn't a full split yet just a minor and may not actually be stopping me. My head was a mess and I decided to accept what will be will be
Then unexpectedly in late July I found myself unwell and wondered if I could be pregnant with great joy I took a test then another and they all came back positive
The sickness got intense very quick so I made a doctors appointment, although they seemed very new and young they were very good and made me feel at ease, they did explain that many symptoms I was having could be the start of an ectopic pregnancy, in the appointment they insisted I go to the hospital if one of two things happened to 1. The pain I was experiencing went to either side rather than the middle 2. If the vomiting didn't stop as I was at risk of dehydration
One afternoon the pain moved to my left side, it wasn't unbearable so I monitored it
The pain started to increase and become more frequent so at in the middle of the night I called NHS 24 after a series of questions I was advised to go to A&E
I was then seen and many vital checks etc were completed and they advised that I should go by ambulance to ninewells (approx 20/30min drive) I said we would be happy to drive and they agreed
I was then met by a lovely nurse that took my vitals again and then a junior, now I once was an apprentice so I appreciate everyone has to learn and although they didn't seem confident and a tad unsure I took their word and trusted them
After they took two blood samples they advised there would be an hour wait for a result to determine if I needed a scan, they then came back laughing saying they forgot to even check my tummy and then led me to a bed to be assessed
2 hours passed and nothing ... feeling like a burden I then went to ask for assistance
The junior then came back at 5. 30am to tell me to go home and I would be called with the result
I feel that there has been a lot of stress in the nearly 6 hours I was left waiting between both hospitals to go home without even an answer - can't imagine the lack of sleep and stress is healthy for my baby
I was left crying in a corridor not knowing what was going on and still don't
I feel completely let down and would really appreciate a call to take this further
Thanks
"I still don't know what is going on"
