"Professionalism, friendliness and efficiency"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department University Hospital Hairmyres / Trauma & Orthopaedics (Wards 1 & 5)

(as the patient),

I recently had to attend Hairmeyres Hospital in East Kilbride. I was on a business trip from Ireland and I must say the service and treatment was excellent.

Initially I was disappointed with the length of time I Was waiting in emergency to be seen. On my arrival I explained to them that I had a confirmed blood clot in my leg. In such a potentially life threatening situation I was anxious and disappointed that I had to wait an hour to be seen.

From the time I was seen though it was all first class service. The nurses, attendants and doctor were brilliant. They were extremely professional, caring, friendly and attentive.

I was brought back to ward 3 the following day for a scan and once again I was met with professionalism and courtesy on a high scale. The scan staff, attendants, nurses and doctor were once again excellent in every way.

I have previously attended hospitals in Scotland, England and Ireland and I must say that the professionalism, friendliness and efficiency in Hairmeyres was by far the best I have ever encountered. Its a credit to you all there Thank you so much for looking after me so well

Dear Tptcel

Thank you for posting your comments. I'm sorry that you had a bit of a wait before being seen in ED. This can be an anxious time, particularly when you know you have a significant issue.

However I'm delighted that the care you subsequently received was of a high standard throughout your time with us. We try hard to provide safe, effective and person centred care to all our patients, so the team will be delighted to read your feedback, which I promise I will share with them.

I hope you continue to recover well.

Kind Regards

Susan

Dear Tptcel

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience at Hairmyres. I am sorry to hear that you were concerned at waiting for an hour in the waiting room before being seen. There is a triage system in place that determines clinical priority for each patient. I apologise if this was not fully explained and a rationale provided. We are currently working on methods to improve this communication.

Once you were seen and assessed I am delighted to read that staff were both professional and friendly throughout your treatment and ongoing care. I will share your comments with the multidisciplinary team as feedback is important to us all. It is a team approach and I am reassured to read that radiology, nursing, medical and support staff were all courteous and efficient.

It must have been a difficult time for you especially being so far from home. Your comments relating to Hairmyres providing the most friendly and professional service have been warmly received. Staff are very proud to read that as a team they provided such excellent care.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience. I hope that you are recovering well and making good progress.

I wish you a speedy recovery and best wishes to you

Thank you

Lise

Update posted by Tptcel (the patient)

Thank you kindly for your reply. It is much appreciated. The staff at that hospital deserve all the worthy praise they get. They were brilliant.

Though my main home is in Ireland I visit Scotland for business reasons three days every week. I previously lived in Scotland/England for 35 years and I can definitely say that Hairmyres was by far the best experience of a hospital I have ever encountered

All the best to you all
