"Let down"

About: St Richard's Hospital / General medicine

I found the nursing staff to be hurried, unsympathetic and frankly uncaring and rude.

My stay was a huge disappointment during a period of intense vulnerability and I will unfortunately in future proceed to either Portsmouth or Guildford for emergencies.

The hospital is clearly excellent at filling in the correct form etc to gain their CQC rating however I felt this inane procedural check listing impeded immensely on the care I received.

It took an average of 3 hours to get analgesia from the time I asked, there was no consideration for the symptoms I had (turning light on every time they entered considering I was photophobic with meningitis).

The last straw was being told in a rude manner that I would move to a general bay (which is fine) and that I would just have to use earplugs and eye masks for my phonophobia and photophobia and that I should just deal with it.

On my second night as an inpatient with meningitis I was told by the night nurse that I did not need fluids and that I just need to get a grip and drink more.

I am never one to complain but I have never been so insulted and felt so uncared for in all my life. I feel really let down.

I got the impression they did not mean to be like this, but have been forced to be like this by the constant form filling, procedural tasks and lack of independence to actually do any nursing that benefits the patient.
