"My Employment experience with my Employment Specialist"

About: Springfield University Hospital (London)

(as a service user),

I came into contact with Central Wandsworth CMHT about 4 years ago. I had regular contact with the care coordinator for 3 to 6 months. I was also involved with my psychiatrist not as frequently as care coordinator.

It was decided that I was not to see my care coordinator anymore but kept seeing the psychiatrist.

In 2016 I started to volunteer for a charity and they provided me with opportunities for paid employment and they advertised for a good salaried job with them.

I was informed by the charity of the Employment Service and then I started to work with Mash, Employment Specialist at Central Wandsworth CMHT.

My Employment Specialist supported me to put in a job application for the role at the charity and I gained an interview and successfully got the job. I never expected to get the job and yet with the support of my Employment Specialist I got the job.

It has boosted my self-esteem and confidence and I am very excited and can’t wait to start my job in August 2017.

Mash has also made me aware of implications of my finances and my welfare rights in regards to my going back to work circumstances & my rights regarding starting my job.

The fact I was offered the job has given me self-belief that I can re-integrate into employment and society and I feel I now have a purpose.

The Treatment has been excellent and Mash has also informed me that if I require in work support I can turn to him. This includes my rights around my mental health.

I feel very much supported by the Employment Support and feel I do not need to worry because of that.
