"Respect shown to patients was truly inspiring"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Elderly Medicine (Wards 51, 52, 54,55, 57, 8a & 2a)

(as a relative),

My  mother in law was recently admitted to Ward 52 of the Langlands Care for the Elderly Unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Glasgow after suffering a bad fall which resulted in a head wound and delirium.

Once more we said our goodbyes and prepared for the worse. How wrong we were. Mum is now back in her own home with an enhanced package of care. I cannot praise this wonderful ward highly enough. Dr Wishart and his team not only provided an excellent level of care and attention to mum they kept the family informed and updated throughout.

Ward 52 is a locked ward dealing with many patients suffering from dementia. The patience displayed by all members of staff and the respect shown to patients was truly inspiring. All phone calls we made to the ward were answered and dealt with promptly and we were encouraged to keep in touch at any time of the day or night.

I cannot praise this ward highly enough. It definitely merits ten out of ten.

Dear Grandma's Home

I was sorry to hear about your Mother in Law’s fall however I am really pleased to hear about the care she received and that she was also able to return to her own home.

I can only imagine what an anxious time this must have been for all of you. I am glad that the family were kept informed and updated throughout. Our aim is that all families feel this way.

Thank you for sharing your Mother in Law’s experience in Ward 52 at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and I will make sure that we share your kind words with Dr Wishart and his team. They will all be delighted to receive your feedback.

Please pass on my best wishes to your Mother in Law.

Kind Regards

Nicole

Dear Grandmas Home

Thank you for posting this opinion. We are all delighted that your mum was able to return to her own home and that the family are happy with her care during her time with us. I have passed your comments on to all the staff and this is a huge morale boost for us.

I am particularly pleased with the aspects of care that you commented on - communication with and involvement of the family and respect and patience shown to our patients. I witness these interactions between staff and patients every day and am very proud of the staff on ward 52. It is so encouraging to have this noticed and acknowledged by a family member so thank you again for your kind words.

Best wishes

Angela Mulrooney

Senior Charge Nurse
