I was admitted to have elective surgery on Monday 17th July for a liver section operation to remove a cancerous tumour. I was nervous about the operation. The process, time I was to be in the operating theatre, my recovery etc were all unknown by me until my pre operation. Here every detail of my experience in the hospital was explained to me with nothing left unclear.
Coming out of the operation into intensive care I was treated with such care and compassion. The way the night nurse dealt with me was surprising. As much as they could they allowed me to sleep and when they needed to wake me it was done with respect and gently. This made a massive difference to my recovery. My experience in the past in other hospitals was of being woken with a jolt and at times it seemed randomly, although I'm sure that this wasn't the case. The day nurses were also very attentive, compassionate and I had the experience that my opinion was really listened to.
I was moved down to the ward after two days and although I had less attention due to the number of patients I was still treated with care and respect. The staff always had a smile waiting and I felt as though they had time for me despite how busy they were.
I'm not sure how this is all achieved with the funding limitations the hospital must endure. It is truly extraordinary and I felt humbled amongst such dedicated and skilled people. I can't thank you all enough for providing this service.
Please feel free to use this review in any way that you see as fit and also I would be delighted to have conversations with anyone who would like to know of my personal experience of using The Royal Surrey.
