I suffer from Autism and Asperger's Syndrome and injured my arm (cross between a cut and stab) while attempting to open a cereal box with a 12-inch kitchen knife.
I rang the non-emergency number (111) and was informed that I should go to the A&E to have it checked - the advice was that, as I had no-one to drive me, I should arrange a taxi to drive my 1-year-old son and I to the hospital.
I walked there - taxis are beyond our budget.
Arrived at the hospital and waited 5 minutes while the receptionist chatted to other staff members before seeing to me.
Saw a triage nurse quite quickly but then had a wait of over 2 hours to see a healthcare adviser who cleaned the wound and put a steri-strip over it...
Almost wish I'd just put a plaster on it and gone about my daily business...
