"Wonderful care throughout"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Orthopaedics Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a relative),

My father, who is 97, fell and fractured his hip while visiting his sister in Falkirk. He was 350 miles from home which made things even more stressful for him and for myself and my sister who were with him.

He was taken by ambulance to Royal Forth Valley and was there for 2 weeks before being transferred nearer to his home in Oxfordshire.

He had wonderful care throughout - from the ambulance crew who attended, to the A&E staff and especially from the staff in B23 orthopaedic ward.

Dear Bob H,

I was very sorry to hear about the problems that your father had getting home. Transferring people long distances can be complex, but is not by any means out of the ordinary and I would not expect it to take two weeks. One issue that you may not know about is that it is the responsibility of the health board where a patient lives to organise repatriation when they live outside of Scotland but I do not know what the details of your father's transfer needs were. May I please ask you to call me on 0141 810 6101 and I will look in to this for you.

I hope that that our father is recovering well.

Pat

Dear BobH

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch to leave such thoughtful and kind feedback about your recent experience, it must have been such a worrying time for you all, especially being so far away from home.

We are very fortunate to have a great team of staff who work hard to care for their patients.

I hope that your dad is recovering well, it must be such a relief to you all to be back home to familiar surroundings.

Take care

Update posted by BobH (a relative)

Dear Pat,

I'm afraid there's been a misunderstanding - I was very pleased with the care my father had throughout, including the ambulance transfer! I knew the timing of the trip depended on my Dad's condition and on bed availability. Your staff- indeed, all the staff involved in caring for Dad - were great.

The title of my post is not of my choosing. I had no grumbles at all and intended to praise both the hospital and ambulance service.

Kind regards

BobH
