"Gastroscopy experience"

About: Southmead Hospital

Whilst the actual procedure isn't a lot of fun I have nothing but praise for all the staff who looked after me and I did indeed feel looked after.

I was quite anxious and undecided about whether to have sedation or not and was listened to and offered a combination of the anaesthetic throat spray and entonox which really did go some way to calming my anxieties as did the constant reassurance and encouragement during the procedure.

I felt completely unhurried during the recovery and the discharge conversation was really helpful. Thank you all so much.

Dear Dorothy,

Thank you for your very kind comments, you are absolutely right the procedure isn't a lot of fun, and it is reassuring to know that you were so well looked after, and able to make an informed choice about the level of sedation that you needed.

Your feedback has been shared with the Endoscopy team.

With kind regards, Sue Needs, Deputy Advice & Complaints Team Manager.
