"Labour Ward and Ward 1D"

About: Calderdale Royal Hospital / Maternity care

I gave birth to my son in April and I was very impressed. It was the first time I had ever been in hospital and as I had only just moved to the area I'll admit I was a little apprehensive.

The care I received from the moment I arrived until I gave birth was second to none. I had the same midwife with me who stayed with me through all stages of labour, delivery and after care and I couldn't fault them. I was impressed how they are constantly monitoring you and even get a second opinion every hour from another midwife with monitoring your progress. I had a few complications during labour and the birth but these were dealt with professionally and always put me at ease.

My only 'grumble' was that the ward was super busy once I had been moved out of delivery (they had to close the ward and send people elsewhere) and if you asked for something or you were told something was about to happen you were often forgotten about and had to remind them. However, this was not the fault of the midwives. You could clearly see they wee absolutely rushed off their feet and they did a fantastic job at caring for such a large number of people.

I would not hesitate is having any future babies here and would definitely recommend this hospital.
