"I can't thank all the staff enough"

About: Dr Gray's Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I attended what I thought would be my routine 12 week scan for my second pregnancy. Unfortunately I received the worst news imaginable that I had suffered a missed miscarriage and my baby did not have a heartbeat. From that moment on although the situation was my worst nightmare I could not have received a better standard of care from all heath professionals involved.

The sonographer gave us all the time and compassion we needed. She carefully explained all the choices we had and I feel helped us to make an informed decision on our next steps. Although the queue outside was building up we never felt in any way pressured or rushed. My gp was incredibly supportive in getting my sick note sorted (something I have never had to do before) and very understanding.

After looking at all the information I was given I chose medical management, the ward 3 staff were excellent at reassuring me through the process and explaining what to expect. Nothing was too much to ask including both literally and figuratively picking me up off the floor. The consultant who took over my care when things weren't working out was also fantastic. When surgical intervention was the only option she was able to reassure me and I felt at ease in her care.

All the theatre staff were superb as well, I had been so nervous about the procedure but they kept my mind off things and I can honestly say I felt no pain which allowed me to start to mentally recover from this experience. Also to mention again the sonographer who fitted me in to what was clearly exceptionally busy clinic, most likely forfeiting her breaks to ensure I didn't have to wait was very kind and much appreciated.

All in all I can't thank all the staff enough for helping me through what has been the hardest time of my life. I have heard so many horror stories of people's experiences at other hospitals and I am pleased to say you were all fantastic. Hope to see most of you again but under more happy circumstances in the future: )

I would like to thank you for providing feedback to our service especially at this sad time.I am glad that all the staff you mention were able to show you compassion and provide you with excellent care. I will pass this letter to the team as I know it always gives the team a boost to see such lovely feedback and I will ensure the theatre team and consultants get a copy too.

Thank you once again and we will look forward to welcoming you back in happier circumstances in the near future.
