Referred by my GP because I have an infected ingrowing toenail consultant barely spoke to me and certainly didn't ask me any general health history only looked at my toe from a distance. Sent me for an x ray where I was seen very quickly and looked after well. Returned to clinic for x ray to be reviewed and was informed infection localised to toe nail. Nurses and reception staff nice polite courteous and professional.
Got given a form to go and book procedure , after being told by consultant wait was very short I was told in area 104 this could be18 weeks. When I have spoken to secretary they has said it may not be 18 weeks but will be September at the earliest. in the mean time I am left with a painful infected toe which is constantly oozing, smells and means I cannot wear my normal shoes at all( I am more concerned about my symptoms rather than the vanity side of things). I have had 2 courses of antibiotics with no effect except giving me thrush so I refuse to have any more I need the offending bit of toenail removed to sort. I had a nurse trying to explain to me how to manage would to manage wound to prevent infection they didn't seem to understand that it already is infected and the redness etc. is spreading down my toe and getting worse . who knows how far this would spread in 18 weeks maybe developing into osteomyelitis.
I am returning to my GP today to see if I can get my treatment expedited somewhere as it is totally unacceptable to leave me with a nasty infected toe to develop osteomyelitis or septicaemia before I am treated
