"ASD assessment"

About: Royal Cornhill Hospital

(as the patient),

After a year of mistakes, I was referred to a consultant. What a fiasco, I think they were totally unprofessional and did not respond to letters from other health professionals, then when I said I would make a complaint, suddenly announced they no longer do ASD assessments.

Dear westerton,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story. I'm sorry that it has taken so long for you to get to this point in your care only to discover that you are no further on in getting help or support. I can understand how frustrated you must feel.

I have shared your comments with the service mentioned and once I hear back from them I will post them here.

Please see below the response posted on behalf of NHS Grampian Mental Health Services:

'Dear Westerton

Thank you for your feedback on Care Opinion. I am sorry to hear you have been unhappy with your recent experience of mental health services. Unfortunately in NHS Grampian our specialist mental health services are unable to offer ASD assessments to adults who do not have a diagnosis of either mental illness or learning disability.

If you would like to discuss, please contact me.

Head of Hosted Mental Health & Learning Disability Services

Update posted by westerton (the patient)

First time they have said this, all excuses, since 2013 my DR and Advocate has been trying to get help in both Tayside NHS and Grampian, passed back and forth, as I live on the border. Do we not have records? for over 40 years I have had mental health illness, so now I need to be diagnosed again to get what two Drs say I need which is the ASD assessment. Which looks like was the problem since I was a child and it was missed.

My own Dr now agrees I should go and stay with friends, move my NHS registration to another DR/area, get the assessment then move back home again.

Total madness, seems no one cares.

Update posted by westerton (the patient)

Now January 2019, as stated above and by letter eventually to get an ASD assessment (to adults who do not have a diagnosis of either mental illness or learning disability) I went for another long diagnosis and it felt they came up with every reason possible not to need an assessment (as they dont do them) and a list of other mental heath issues, as expected, yet can I now have the ASD assessment? NO, will they refer me to another NHS Board, NO.

Dear Westerton,

We are sorry that accessing an ASD assessment has caused such frustration for you. Unfortunately this assessment isn’t something that NHS Grampian is currently able to offer, but we are trying to find help.

Even though Care Opinion don’t share any of your personal details with us, we think we recognise your experience and believe you are in touch with us in other ways too. As you know a member of our senior management team has been in contact with your advocate. We have tried to access this assessment for you from another Health Board who currently do not have capacity to receive out of area referrals. We are now looking to access this assessment through another board.

If you would like to discuss this further please get in touch with:

Update posted by westerton (the patient)

Thank you for your reply. I am aware NHS Grampian will not do assessments, I had to climb mountains for years to get a referral to Tayside NHS, I was at last told I was referred in Jan 19, but rejected, but when I contacted Tayside they said they had not had any referral from Grampian. This is cruel, so unfair and not how this should work. I have spoken to Adam dozens of times, he has always done his best to help.

Update December 2019 still waiting.

Complete joke, when asked what complaint was about in five key points, then they took that as complaint and responded, no chance for me to give the details, for first or second stage, now they will not answer, but refer me to SPSO.
