"received excellent treatment by all concerned"

About: Borders General Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

Woke breathless and lightheaded with some chest pain, contacted Macmillan nurse, who arranged for me to go to the AAU at the BGH. I had blood samples taking, received an ECG, xray and CT Scan, consultation with practitioner nurse and two doctors. Given antibiotics and steriods for possible infection on treated lung.

I received excellent treatment by all concerned and left BGH after four hours.

Dear JPC,

Thank you for taking the time to share the details of your experience following a recent visit to our Acute Assessment Unit at the Borders General Hospital. I was pleased to hear you had such a positive experience and received excellent treatment from all staff in a timely manner. I will ensure your feedback is shared with the staff concerned who will appreciate you sharing your story.

Dr Lynn McCallum, Consultant Physician and Head of Service for Unscheduled Care, will also be grateful to hear your feedback and I am sure will also wish to respond to you directly on her return from leave.

I hope you are now recovering well.

Best wishes,

Karen

Dear JPC,

Thank you for taking the time to tell us of your positive experience in AAU. My apologies for the delay in my reply but as mentioned above, I am just back from annual leave!

Our Acute Assessment Unit is a relatively new addition to the Borders General Hospital and aims to provide rapid assessment, investigation, diagnosis and management to all patients referred with medical problems via their GPs.

I'm so glad that we were able to assess you quickly and get you commenced on the correct treatment and I very much hope that you are now fully recovered.

I cannot reiterate enough the value of patients telling us of their experiences both in staff morale and in guiding future changes to our services that we provide in NHS Borders. Thank you very much again for taking the time to do this!

Best wishes,

Lynn
