"Going private next time."

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital / Mary Rose Maternity Centre

Reduced feral movement- 5 episodes.

Referred for a scan and to see a consultant. Growth good consultant said to have CTG twice weekly and have a sweep at 39 weeks

3/7/17 attended routine CTG. midwife wanted me to see a doctor the following day as movement had decreased again

4/7/17 attended appointment at 4pm. Was seen by doctor at about 9pm was told I would have to see a consultant the following day as they could not make decisions about induction etc (I have not asked to be induced)

5/7/17 attended appointment at 3pm seen by consultant at 8:50 pm. Was taken for a scan, all fine. They said my stomach muscles may have gone numb which is why I'm not feeling movements. They explained risks of induction at 38 weeks and advised it would be better to wait until 39 (I have not asked to be induced). I said I was supposed to be having a sweep at 39 weeks, they said there was no reason why they could not try to start them now, I asked wether that would be done here or by my midwife. They said here and that I was to come in tomorrow for a CTG and a sweep and take things from there.

6/7/17 arrived at 3pm seen at 4 by midwife. Had CTG but midwife refused sweep as that was not what had been written in my notes but was written on my booking by midwife yesterday. They went to get doctor to sort out a plan. Doctor came in and spoke relentlessly about induction and me not being term (still not asked to be induced) they then proceeded to patronise me for 10 minutes and said that I can keep my twice weekly CTGs if I wanted to "comfort myself" (this was what was put in place by a consultant originally and FM had further reduced) they said to ring up and come in if I don't feel the baby move every 4 hours or so. I explained that I never do and this is why my plan was supposed to be reviewed. They just repeated them self. I explained this again to the midwife as I left the ward (in tears) to which they said 'I see where you're coming from'.

I have been made appointment after appointment to see a consultant, I finally see one and they tell me what needs to happen, they fail to write his down properly so I have wasted hours in he hospital all week. To be called a 'time waster' and an 'attention seeker' by midwives. I do not want an induction, I want to make sure my son is okay as I have gone from 30+ movements to a handful of movements a day.

I was very sorry to read of your experience and the distress that this has caused you. Your description of events would certainly not what we would want for our patients and we would welcome the opportunity to ask a senior member of the Team involved to discuss this with you. If this is something you would be interested in then please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0800 917 6039 or by email at PHT.PALS@porthosp.nhs.uk so that they can raise your concerns with the appropriate person.

Kind regards

Debbie
