I was unfortunately admitted to ITU with Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA ) for several days, I was aware of my surroundings and didn't require intubation. I initially felt very scared, lonely and unwell, however the outstanding care and emotional support I received from all the nursing staff on the unit was 1st class and I couldn't have received better care. Also the follow up appointments with the critical care team was amazing, this really helped me overcome some fears I had developed. I am a healthcare professional myself and with the mounting pressures on the NHS at this present time I just wanted to let them all know what an amazing job there doing!
