When my wife was in ward 207, Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, I witnessed first hand how some members of the public can be rude, aggressive, unrealistic and down right nasty to the hard working staff.

I watched as Karen, the ward Sister, listened patiently and attentively, to one such member of public, who was a patient at the time. Karen handled the situation with professionalism, politeness and integrity. Where I would have walked away, Karen tried offering alternatives to pacify the lady.

I have nothing but positive remarks to pass on to Karen and her team. Her professional approach to looking after patients and her staff are outstanding and can only be commended. Ward 207 is a welcoming, friendly and well organised ward and I am very much convinced that comes from Karen's leadership. She deserves a medal for being a fantastic role model. If only everyone appreciated what we have in our health service.

Thank you so much for wonderful feedback about Karen, the Senior Charge Nurse, and her team in ward 207.

You are absolutely right to spot that the leadership in a ward is so important in all aspects of how it is run. I am absolutely delighted you felt the ward was welcoming, friendly and well organised.

To read the words you use to describe Karen - patient, attentive, professional etc - is no surprise to me but it is very powerful to hear your feedback as a visitor to the ward. I am certain Karen will be lifted by your words. The Senior Charge Nurse role can be a very challenging one, as you witnessed, and to know that your work is appreciated is always so good to hear.

I really appreciate you taking the time to share your views with us. I will share this post with the team in Ward 207 as soon as I complete this response.

I hope your wife is now recovering well from whatever brought her to the ward.
