"How the job should be done"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Accident & Emergency Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Stroke care (Wards 56 and 68)

(as a relative),

2 things. Firstly, after having a stroke, the care (or should I say ..lack of) in the acute receiving unit was absolutely deplorable!  The care, support and attention my mother had once transferred to ward 56 in Langlands, was the best. Apart from some auxiliary staff, this ward is run incredibly well. Good communication between staff, patients and families, encouraging and sympathetic nurses and everyone working there in whatever capacity always managed a greeting and a smile....so well received as much by anxious family as by patients themselves. The ward was lovely and bright and staff seem overall happy and involved. Having spent a lot of time over the last few years in this hospital (old and new), I have to say that whoever is running this ward should be given a medal! Fantastic job returning to 'how the job should be done' The only NON soul destroying experience I've had in the Southern General in a very long time!

Dear Aviva

Thank you for taking the time to post on Care Opinion. I am sorry to hear about your mother's experience in the Acute Receiving Unit of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. I will share your feedback with the General Manager of that service.

I am however delighted to read about how you feel about the care your mother received in ward 56. The way in which you describe the care delivered to your mother is how all of our patient's loved ones should feel, from the communication right down to a smile.

Again, I will ensure your feedback is shared with the General Manager. The staff will be delighted to read your kind words.

Best wishes
Lisa
