"Smoking at Lincoln County Hospital."

About: Lincoln County Hospital

(as a relative),

My husband and I are appalled at the lack of enforcement of the smoking policy at this hospital. Immediately outside the main entrance their are hundreds of discarded cigarette ends that have been their months and possibly years. People and patients are smoking directly outside the doors despite the clear signs and notices.

A hospital is about improving the health of its patients. Why aren't people being requested to move to the designated smoking areas within the hospital grounds.

The entrance of this hospital should be kept clean at all times for all entering the building.

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding the occurrence of smoking at the main entrance to Lincoln Hospital.

The Trust has a Smoking Policy which is currently under review. As part of this policy smokers visiting our hospitals are asked to use designated smoking areas to ensure a smoke-free environment for other patients, visitors and staff. The smoking areas are clearly signed, away from main entrances, but still easily accessible.

This is aimed at preventing people from smoking outside hospital entrances, which causes concern for other staff, patients and visitors.

We attempt to enforce this policy at every opportunity. Anyone seen smoking outside of the designated areas is likely to be asked to move to a designated area by staff and also other visitors to the hospital. The facilities team do also routinely clean the front entrance to remove litter and cigarette butts.

We are sorry for the experience you detailed but thank you for taking time to raise this with us. Your feedback is very helpful as it highlights the fact that enforcement of the policy is not as effective as it needs to be.
