"9 hour wait for no assessment and no treatment"

About: West Suffolk Hospital / Accident and emergency

Visited my GP in the morning with abdomen pain, they called West Suffolk Hospital ward 6 and sent me up to the hospital with a referral for a suspected appendicitis.

Arrived at A&E at 11, no beds in ward 6 so was processed in A&E. Quickly triaged and bloods taken, then waited for over 2 hours to see a doctor. Referred for an ultrasound to rule out gynaecology cause, seen relatively quickly.

Returned to A&E to be advised that bed was now available on ward 6.

Arrived on ward 6 at 4pm, by 8pm despite numerous complaints I had still not been assessed by a Surgeon. As no further diagnosis would be obtained that evening I decided to leave.

At no point during my 9 hour wait was I provided with any pain relief. So decided to go home and self-care, treat and monitor pain myself.

I am really sorry to hear of the wait you experienced, we would expect your pain to be managed whilst you are with us so I am concerned by this. Please contact our PALS team on 01284 712555 who can look into this further for you. They can also be emailed pals@wsh.nhs.uk.

Kind regards
