"Kind and caring but felt let down"

About: Charles Clifford Dental Hospital / Oral surgery

(as the patient),

What I liked that they are nice people and they help and care but my experience there scared me. I've e been before once and was okay but this time I have to bare in mind the people who treated me are learning to become professionals so hear my thoughts of this subject.

they tried to see which tooth was causing me pain the student was struggling to find or explain but their tutor helped find the tooth and explain and it was alright friendly people.

I was told I needed my tooth pulling and I was scared a little and the person who did it was shaking and when injected in my mouth it hurt alot so I jumped so I got very scared so started crying the nurses calmed me down and while pulling my tooth out my cheek was getting stretched to the fullest to get the pliers in and to pull and a course I heard all the cracking and felt a lot of pulling from my mouth but no pain. I was very scared and felt they student was not ready to do what they did but I have to say the nurses made me feel calm and helped my nerves a lot with them talking to me and I was glad they were doing it with their tutor not alone because they really hurt my mouth and the shaking but in end I was okay.   they are nice people and lucky they have there tutors beside them so you know everything will be okay and even when they finished they showed my tooth to me.

I'm not sure I will go back because I was very scared with the experience but same time I never say never because they caring people and make your visit less scary and at least soon as my gum heals I should not have pain so I should say thank you to the staff at Charles Clifford dental hospital for treating me and help calm me down.  To improve I think students could be given more training on how to inject someone as there was a problem here and me and the student had to get a blood test.  They rang me to say nothing to worry about as their blood is clear of anything the very next day so that was good.  they let me know ASAP so yes nothing to worry about and every one makes mistakes as I say they learning and I think it's good that as they learning they helping people so good on them I guess and I'm sorry about the long review I've gave just I thought I share my experience but everyone experience are different and never be same.

Dear Eliza

Thank you for leaving feedback, I am really sorry you were scared by your experience but your kind words about the friendly and caring staff will mean a great deal to them. As you say, the dental hospital is a learning environment so the student who saw you is likely to have carried out a formal reflection about what happened with your treatment. However I will forward your feedback onto them to ensure it is reviewed. If you would like us to look into this matter further please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Services Team to provide more details. You can do this by emailing them at pst@sth.nhs.uk or by calling them on 0114 271 2400.

With thanks and best wishes
