"Compassionate and wonderful staff"

About: St Mary's Hospital / Gynaecology

I went for my first gynae appointment this morning. I was already in pain because I had a flare up that morning and I needed to know why I was having this pain. The nurse specialist practitioner took me to the examination room and from the get go, they made me feel comfortable. There was also a student midwife in the room and I didn't mind at all because I also wanted them to learn from what was happening to me.

I have never felt so welcome and understood the whole time I was with the nurse and student nurse. They made me feel so at ease, and the nurse practitioner explained everything to me in the way I could understand. They told me what my options were and what I could do to alleviate the pain that I was in now.

I have another appointment to see the consultant in three months time. While this isn't ideal because of the long wait, at least I know that something is being done to help me. I do hope that my experience today in terms of compassion, care, respecting my privacy and dignity will be replicated when I seen the consultant.

Thank you, Saint Mary's nursing staff!

Thank you for your positive comments posted on the NHS Choices / Patient Opinion website regarding your care in the Gynaecology Outpatients Department at Saint Mary’s Hospital. It was very kind of you to take the time to write and compliment the staff as it is good to receive positive feedback which reflects the hard work and dedication of our staff. It was pleasing to read that the staff were able to put you at ease and feel comfortable at a difficult and worrying time and provide you with the information you needed to plan the next steps in your care needs.

The Trust has introduced a behavioural framework for staff to work within to help ensure that the patients experience is a positive one. We set high professional standards for our nursing and medical teams and the way you describe your experience provides me with reassurance that this Specialist Nurse has taken this work to heart. I can assure you that we have passed on your thoughts to Mrs Pam Kilcoyne, Lead Nurse for Gynaecology who will be pleased to share your kind thoughts with the staff involved.
