"The Emergency Department and Lyn Jarrett Unit..."

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Accident and emergency

I would like to thank QMC and its amazing staff for their care and professionalism during my recent admission for a suspected cardiac event. When you are having a frightening and potentially life changing issue, it feels as though all the things you would normally do for yourself including making judgements and decision,s and taking actions are in someone else's hands, and you depend upon them totally.

The teams in the Emergency Department and Lyn Jarrett unit were fantastic from start to finish. Their standards of care and dignity, supply of information and involvement in decisions about me, their cross team communications and their levels of reassurance were all second to none. As a patient knowing that people are talking to each other and are informed about your condition makes a massive difference as not only does it give you confidence that the care you are receiving is joined up but also you don't have to repeat answers to the same questions at every point of contact.

Staff went the extra mile for me time and again and examples are the consultants and ED clinicians who made sure that I was kept informed at every point, to the member of staff in Lyn Jarrett Unit who came back from their break halfway through to make sure that I was OK, to the person who kept coming back round to top my water up as quickly as I drank it!. Thank you QMC - your staff are exemplars of everything the NHS should be and clearly reflect a culture that puts patients at the heart of everything the organisation is about.

Thank you so much for getting in touch to share your feedback, which reinforces the importance of effective communication with our patients.

I thought you might like to know that our staff awards, called NUHonours, are open for nominations. Considering your feedback you might wish to nominate a member of staff or team (which would fall under the Medicine Division Award). If you would like to, you can find out more and make a nomination via our website: www.nuh.nhs.uk/nuhonours

Thanks again for getting in touch. I’ve shared your comments with staff in our Emergency Department and Lyn Jarrett Unit.

Wishing you well,

Jane Newton.

Matron, Emergency Department.
