"Most of my time was spent on ward ..."

What I liked

Most of my time was spent on ward 27. I've stayed on this ward before so when they told me I was moving there from ward 30, I was over the moon.

The staff on ward 27 treat you with respect and are so friendly. Special mention for staff nurses who were absolutely fantastic. All of the HCA's wear brilliant too. My bed was near a lady who had become a little confused and required a lot of attention, the kind that would test anyone's patience, but the HCA's continued to look after her well and tried to comfort her as best as they could. They all deserve a bonus in my opinion!

I found that the food was pretty good although my diet's pretty limited as I don't like much. But I could eat the mashed potato and gravy every meal of every day, for the rest of my life!! Chuck in the daily cooked brekkie and it's more like staying in a hotel!

The wards I stayed on didn't appear to have any issues with cleanliness, and staff were quick to respond when buzzed for attention.

What could be improved

I had an issue with regards to being refused medication because my partner had forgotten to bring it in. When I was told by my GP that I had to go into hopsital, I was in that much of a frenzy that I forgot to pack my meds. They had no issues supplying them all for me, but I take a very strong controlled painkiller. They gave me my morning dose of it late because they had to borrow some from another ward. My partner came to visit but had forgotten all of my meds again. They continued to give me the rest of my medication from the hospital supply, but didn't attempt to get any of my painkiller from another ward and told me that the pharmacy had refused to give them any as well. Half the reason I was in there was because I was in pain! This was my 6th or 7th hospital admission since Oct '09 and have been on that ward 4 times and i've never ever been refused my painkillers. I was lay there crying my eyes out on several occassions due to the pain but I wasn't comforted or even offered an explanation. It's not neccessarily the fault of the nurses on ward 30, I understand that, but in my opinion I should not have been refused my painkiller when I was in hospital because of the pain I was in.

Anything else?

Nothing else to add but just to reiterate, the staff on Ward 27 are brilliant and definitely deserve a pay rise or a bonus!
