"Scheduling - Private v NHS"

About: Goring Hall Hospital

I received two contradictory rotator cuff repair appointments in the post, one for 9 June and then one for 29 June. I called and explained that there were pressing work related matters (board meeting) so they switched it to 16 June only for me to be called the night before to say my blood sugar was 1.50 outside the safe index of 8.00 and the operation would not be going ahead. I spoke to a couple of friends at The Nuffield and they had never heard of any op' being cancelled due to a marginal blood sugar reading. They say, it was a scheduling issue and down to incompetence alongside revenue aspects and to demote the NHS patient ahead of the fee paying ones. The irony is that it was the Goring Hall doctor who switched me to the NHS and now I sit and wait. I find the staff rude and dismissive of NHS patients but go private then you get a professional and courteous service.

It is a really sad state of affairs but the NHS remains streets ahead of others but only if funding is passed down to allow them to do their job.

Thank you for your feedback.

I am sorry to hear that your procedure did not go ahead due to your blood levels being outside the safe level. All decisions made at Goring Hall are based on clinical safety, and pre-operative assessment guidance.

We apologise if any staff were rude and would be happy to address your specific concerns if you address these directly with the hospital. I can confirm that the same clinical standards are applied to all funding groups.

All feedback received is shared with our staff and when an issue has been brought to our attention, we investigate the circumstances to try and identify ways we can improve our processes and prevent the situations from happening again.

However, there are occasions, due to unforeseen circumstances, when it is deemed the best or safest decision for the patient that we cancel or postpone the operation.
