About: Ayrshire Central Hospital / Douglas Grant Rehabilitation Centre Brooksby Day Hospital / Physiotherapy

(as the patient),

9 months after a blackout and various visits to Neurologists with a list of symptoms I was given a diagnosis (after full, spinal MRI) on Cnristmas Eve 2014 that I had a mass on my spine. Was initially told vermthese months that it was " all in my head" and was only given MRI when He demanded to be give some form of treatment.

I subsequently asked to be seen over Christmas holidays when given results and upon entering Neurologists consulting room was admitted to Neorosurgical, ward of the Souther General. Operation/risks were discussed but either way risk of being paralysed/ secondary cancer was "high". Had less than 24 hours to accept emercency spinal surgery.

After many parents full months and rehab in various regions g due to living in remote area) and moving home me twice to accommodate my disability nIm eventually found myself at the Douglas Grant Rehab centre.

Here my life began again thanks to the wonderful Sara. She was not only my physio but my mentor, my councillor and my hope for the future. Without her help, encouragement and guidance I would not be in the position I am today.

I was discharged from the unit in June 2017 as I can now self manage my disability.

I have a self wheelchair and a fabulous motability scooter ( I even "walk" my dog with it every day).

Life is now what I make it but I could never have managed without the hardworking, under staffed physics at the centre.

I even braved accupuncture ( with a needle phobia) due to Sara's encouragement.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Rock Gran,

Your courage and strength is a real credit to you, you must be very proud of your achievements. In saying that, I am in no way taking away from the fantastic job Sara has done.

You nailed it when you said "Life is now what I make it ..." and it is such an important reminder to us all how precious life is. Thank you so very much for taking the time to tell us your story and I am sure this will help give hope and strength to others too.

I will be delighted to pass your story on, particularly to the lovely Sara.

May I add how sorry I am that you had some difficulties in the early part of your diagnosis.

I wish you all the best health and strength,

Kind regards,

Eunice
