"Not professional - waste of time"

About: Malton Community Hospital

So my little boy has been poorly, rang 111 who said they had made me an appointment at Malton hospital at 1pm with the out of hours doctor. Get there at ten to one and have to wait twenty mins for the receptionist as they were eating lunch! This is also the emergency walk in reception I think it is totally unacceptable to leave a reception unmanned for lunch!!!! Anyway after finally being able to mark our arrival a nurse comes up to us at 2pm to advise me that there is no doctor as they have had to go on home visits and they do not know when the doctor will be back!!! I have not had my son seen to today and this is the third time in my four years of living in the area Malton hospital has been a complete waste of time. The fact that I now have to go into York to actually get some care for my son is unacceptable and you have cost me money and wasted my time getting there, the attitudes of all your nurses and receptionists is disgusting they have zero compassion and need some lessons in general manners. Also while being there an hour two nurses managed to see two patients each and managed to get two cup of teas each every though there were patients waiting to see them. Never mind the patients eh just make sure you all have plenty of food and water, not like anyone is ill or injured and needs to be seen eh??

Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

I am very sorry to hear of your experience at Malton, Norton and District Hospital when you visited the out of hours doctor. I am sorry that the reception desk was not manned when you arrived for your appointment at 1pm and that after some wait you were then told there was no doctor to see you and your son due to them being away on home visits.

We do take your comments very seriously and would like the opportunity to look into your concerns further.

If you would like discuss this with us, please contact the Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) on 01904 726262 or email us at pals@york.nhs.uk and we will be pleased to help.

Kind regards

The PALS team
