"As a patient I feel part of the team"

About: Golden Jubilee National Hospital / General Surgery

(as the patient),

I received excellent pre-peri-post operative care from the staff at my recent hip replacement. I received the same quality of care during the process when I had a hip replacement last September.

All staff from the reception, X-ray, outpatients clinic to the staff who provide the inpatient care- the NHS at it’s best – as a patient I feel part of the team and I was listened to.

Two comments:

- Healthy food: why is bebo vegetable fat spread used – why not butter?

- the en-suite shower – it floods with the need to lay a towel on the flow to stop the water escaping further in the toilet area or/and into the room outside.

My thanks to everyone at the golden jubilee.

Dear Ellen,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. It’s so nice to hear you say that you felt listened to and part of the team; that is exactly how we want patients to feel and it’s very kind that you recognise the range of staff involving in making this happen for you. I will make sure we share your feedback with all areas involved in your care and I’m sure the staff will be grateful.

In response to your specific comments:

• I am very sorry you experienced the issues described with the shower, We had experienced a problem in the floor above you with the shower rooms which we thought had resolved. Our estates department are working to address this,

•I have checked with our catering manager and although we do have butter available our nutritional advice is that the spread is a healthier alternative, particularly for the heart patients that we have visiting.

Thank you again for your feedback; we wish a speedy recovery from your operation.

Best wishes,

Laura Langan Riach

Head of Clinical Governance
