"Everyone I met was kind, compassionate and made me feel at ease"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Breast Services

(as the patient),

I had an appointment at the breast clinic, I was 40 minutes early for my appointment but was taken within 5 minutes of arriving. I was seen very quickly by a specialist breast nurse who was lovely and sent me for an ultrasound scan.

I then had to wait 2. 5 hours for the scan, a very long time to wait when you are already anxious about what may be wrong. The scan only took about a minute, and I was then seen promptly by the consultant who was reassuring and provided me with the answers I needed. I can not fault the staff, everyone I met was kind, compassionate and made me feel at ease, but the long wait for an ultrasound made for a very anxious and stressful day.

The breast team will be delighted to hear that the care, support and information you received from the breast specialist nurses and consultant made you feel at ease at your recent visit to the breast clinic.

I am pleased you were taken earlier than your appointment time having arrived 40 minutes early. Patients are seen in order of appointment not in order of arrival. There must have been no one waiting with an earlier appointment waiting. I am sorry to hear you had to wait 2 1/2 hours for an ultrasound scan, than only lasted a minute, at a time when you were understandable feeling anxious. Information is sent along with appointment letters advising patients that they may spend up to 4 hours in the clinic, to prepare them for a lengthy wait. The length of time waiting for a scan can vary according to the number of consultants and radiologists at the clinic and the volume of patients attending on the day.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience which I will share with the breast team

Kind regards

Margaret
