On a less than favourite day in the past few months I was admitted via resus / a&e having been vomiting blood, low BP, low pulse and anaemia. A history of blood in stool. After being in 2 other wards and a corridor for a few hours at a time I arrived on Neptune ward.
At first introduction I was told I'd be out in the morning as there appears to be nothing wrong and I'm too young to be suffering anything major (this was a member of the ward team)
Following morning I was seen by a doctor who told me that they would keep me in until they figured out what was wrong with me.
That afternoon I was told I'd be having a blood transfusion this didn't happen until 2 days later and I was never updated unless I asked.
Whilst in a lot of pain I asked for some pain killers and was told I didn't need them and was given paracetamol only which did nothing.
Day 5 of my incarceration and I was itchy and asked for an antihistamine which I got 5 hours later on the next shift.
On the 7th day I was seen by the specialist who said I can't find anything wrong with you so you can go home today - this basically topped off the fact that through the whole week the nurses had been fobbing me off as fine and a time waster (is what it felt like)
After being told I could go a nurse came and told me I'd have to go now and wait in a different area as they needed the bed right away.
i didn't want to be in hospital anymore than the nurses who appeared to hate being there just as much.
Some of the nurses where pleasant and seemed to genuinely care but for the most part they paid lip service and the instant they walked away they forgot.
I read my charts several times and the inaccuracies in the notes was shocking BP figures completely different to those on the monitor, nurses handover notes stated patient in no pain, BP fine doesn't need to be here anymore.
Overall I left hospital with no answers or hope of getting them. A month on and I'm still no better but gwh is about stats not progress.
