"Total knee replacement"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / General Surgery (Ward 5)

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Hairmyres Hospital for my knee replacement last week at 11. 00am and had the operation carried out later that afternoon. I opted for a nerve block rather than a general anaesthetic and found the to be the correct type of anaesthesia for me. I recovered in Ward 1 at Hairmyres Hospital and was discharged in the afternoon 3 days later.

I put this rapid discharge down to the excellent care provided by all staff concerned in looking after me - medical, nursing, physio, occupational therapy and the ward catering and cleaning staff. What also helped was the fact that I was willing to help myself and had very little pain. A big vote of thanks to all staff who cared for me
