"Cataract surgery - excellent staff and care"

About: Nuffield Health, Shrewsbury Hospital

I was recently preferred by my optician and GP for cataract removal.

I was surprised the Nuffield was an option on the NHS as I assumed it would be private only.

The service and care was excellent from start to finish and at no time did I feel 'second-rate' to a private paying patient. I had my first consultation in April and surgery in June, which is an excellent turnaround time (possibly I was given a priority as I'm 42 with 2 young children).

On the day itself two lovely nurse made me feel at home and kept checking on us.

I liked waiting with the other 3-4 patients as we had something in common to talk about. The theater manager was lovely too, nothing was a rush, lots of talking to keep me calm.

Once in the theater, the consultant, nurse and the rest of the team worked through the operation in a careful and professional manner. I didn't feel a thing and was so relieved.

After 8 mins or so it was all over and I was wheeled to a lovely room with drinks machine and biscuits. Quick final check with another nurse, eye drops and follow-up info, and I was on my way.

Wow and phew.

A massive thank you!!!
