What I liked
Every stage of the appointment , addmission and treatment was in order and organized.
What could be improved
About a month ago my mom had an appointment in Day Service Unit at 8.00am , ....... we were called in after 20 minutes for admission so as soon we went one of the small rooms with nurses i think nurse i cant remember her name but the first question after her introduction and when i introduced my self via interpreter she asked my mom, how long you have living in this country. As it was interpreter job so she asked same question to mom and mom said about 40 years, nurse said that you have been living in this country that long and you are not able to speak english, can i ask what is this? where is equality and diversity now? where is treatment of each patient with dignity? A patient who is going to have a major operation and been through that sentimental thing all previous nights, starved, not had water since morning because of treatment requirement and on one hand you provide interpreter on other hand you abuse them for using this facility and patients are given that good start in the morning. My mom said to nurse in her broken english lillte bit she can understand, then nurse completed the admission process and i left for my work, when mom came home two weeks after she recived her OP appt and mom said i dont want an interpreter this time i asked why mom? was interprerer not good last time she said interpreter was more efficent than nursing staff she guided her through ech step but i knew what was mom worries she didnt want that question to be asked again? why cant you speak english? I want answer from DSU of rochdale will you treat pts like this if they cant speak English?
Anything else?
Please train your nursing staff that they should treat each patient with equality, one more lady in DSU i would like to thank her for her help ..... I would like to thank both interpreters in pre-op clinic and than in DSU both were so professional, polite and far more better than your nusing staff. Thank and hope in future no one else will suffer from same thing as my mom did.
