So within this month 2 years ago (June 2015) I was taken into hospital very ill, after being referred by my doctor. I was that unwell I couldn't even keep water down. Within 2 minutes of arriving at Heartlands I had blood taken, was put on a drip and then was put on a bed. My temperate was so high, I had a huuuuge fan in my face for a good 5 hours and my temperature just wasn't going down. I had nurses check on me regularly, always kept my mum updated, had a catheter on, had to have a CT scan. I was very drained and glad to have my mum there, but also the nurses were amazing. I had to stay in overnight and once again, I was regularly being checked on, and in the morning there was a whole team of doctors and nurses ready to tell me about the next step. So grateful for everything.
Now recently my mum was taken into hospital due to finding a lump at the doctors. She was there for 5pm and ended up in Ward 11. I joined my mum straight after work and got there for about 7pm. The nurses were rushed off their feet, there were no beds, and a+e seemed to be sending over people that hadn't been properly assessed which was irritating for the nurses. It was that long of a wait I was even offered a drink and food even though I wasn't a patient.
12pm my mum saw a doctor for the news that she needs a CT scan, but my mum refused to stay in overnight so she couldn't take up any beds and would come back first thing. They agreed to this and told us to come in for 9. 30.So I booked a day off work and we got there for 9. 30, and was given a time of 11: 15. Everything was thorough and quick, and she has an operation booked for a few weeks time. You can tell the staff was doing everything they could. And over the 2 days I did recognise some staff from when I was in there.
I just want to give a massive thank you to all the ward 11 staff that me and my mum come across. Amazing people who should be proud of what they do. Even through all the madness of too many patients, being rushed off their feet, people having ago at them, staff cuts, money cuts you could tell how passionate they are for patients. We are grateful to have had our experiences to be as comfortable as possible. People need to stop moaning about waiting times and look at the bigger picture, nurses are here for us.
