My son is 4 and has cerebral palsy. He is a bright young boy and about to start in a mainstream primary school. He has some awkwardness and weakness in his hands and would benefit from occupational therapy. We have had an assessment and it is clear that he needs support with this. Especially now getting to the stage where he is about to embark on his journey of learning to write, which will be an important skill to him throughout his life. He will need 1-1 help and extra equipment like pencil grips etc. Also help with learning how to do up and undo buttons, using scissors and so on. And yet I am told that there aren't enough OT staff to provide him with any help. There's not enough staff and there's not enough funding. What are parents meant to do in this situation? There must be hundreds of parents like us that want the best for their children and are being denied help.
