"On the ward issues."

About: Royal Derby Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

My doctor from start to finish was amazing and helped with making me fully aware of what was going on. The doctor enabled me to have an impact on what treatment was going to take place with me,

This helped as I have major panic attacks toward being in hospitals and injections.

The conditions were made that my girlfriend would be able to be by my side for as much as they could make happen to help with this traumatic expirenace.

Once on the ward I was told I can't have my girlfriend with me at any time and this straight away caused me distress. I was already planned to be in a seperate room away from others not within any close view of others so although a policy may be in place there was to be no harm In allowing my girlfriend with me to ease the day and make me feel less stressed and prevent a major panic attack that have very bad side effects.

Once I come round I was still told no and I had to even attempt to stand up and go home because of how distressed I was.

Again the doctor I seen were very great but the ward staff were very rude.

They had no understanding of my back ground and was easy to tell that no notes were being read to understand what my needs and care were.

The ward staff really let the ward down other than one nurse who you could tell had been in the job for a long time and was an over all nice person but by now the damage and rudeness of others had already been done.

It is such a shame and towards right at the end of the night when kicking most people out me and my girlfriend (as she was with me) heard of a young nurse swearing and complaining about the mess of one of the rooms and we even over heard a further nurse telling the first nurse to shush more than once as the nurse simply gave off the I can not be bothered.

The issue I see is a separation between the doctors and the ward staff. The doctor should have the power to have a bigger impact for what there patainces needs are and backgrounds would of been looked at in more detail from prior appointments.

The ward staff reallyyyyyy let the ward down and my experience for that hole day.

I was on ward 207 on 05/06/17 and my name is Christopher Swan.
