Mum (almost 93) fell and broke her femur yesterday afternoon. She has been treated with the utmost skill, kindest, dignity, respect and care from everyone concerned. The paramedics were extraordinarily gentle and kind. In A&E she was treated in a timely manner by the loveliest of people. Each and every one accommodated her very poor hearing and took time to speak slowly and clearly.
Mum has had a number of operations in her life but two years ago when she broke her first hip she had a very unpleasant reaction to the anaesthetic. She was hallucinating and very frightened. Today she was more frightened of that happening again than of the operation.
The anaesthetist Mr Lone listened very attentively to our concerns and questions before determining that he needed to know exactly what anaesthetic had been administered in 2015. As her records had been archived at a location on the other side of Taunton a taxi was sent to retrieve them as they would have arrived too late through the normal procedure. This resulted in a problem free operation and immediate recovery period for Mum. I am happy to say that this evening she is comfortable and relaxed. The ward staff are wonderfully caring people who administer skilfully, kindly and respectfully to Mum. We look forward to a full and speedy recovery for her. Our grateful thanks to all concerned.
