"Chest pain"

About: John Radcliffe Hospital / Accident and emergency

I went into the a&e yesterday evening around 9.30pm complaining of chest pain and shortness of breath. I was quickly seen by a triage nurse who took my blood pressure and advised me that I needed to have blood tests and potentially other tests also, I was transferred to the other side of the a&e at the JR. once there, I say and waited, then a nurse called me over for blood tests where the nurse also inserted a cannula into my hand. The nurse then took me for an ECG of my heart. Once this was all done, I was then transferred to a cubicle. Whilst in the cubicle a doctor, who I did not get the name of came in and asked me why I was there. I explained why and the doctor did not really talk, just proceeded to complete a heart scan. Once that was completed I asked what the doctor thought the issue but I got no response, they quickly walked away. The lovely nurse came in to set up the cardiac monitor on myself and take obs. The nurse then told me about all the tests the doctor said the doctor wanted to do and thought the doctor had told me! A chest X-ray and CT scan later I then needed to wait awhile for the report to come back. The nurse was brilliant at keeping my mind at ease during my wait in the hospital. Once the report had come back, the doctor returned, told me i could go home, yanked out my cannula without any due care and told me it was just a viral infection and walked away. Offered me no advice as to how long the symptoms would last. I did not think at the time about asking the nurse, I was looking forward to going home and getting in my bed ( I'm not a big fan of hospitals!!).

The doctor who saw me last night (10/6/17) definitely needs some training to improve their bedside manner, but I cannot fault any other member of staff within the JR who I met last night. The nurse in particular was brilliant and is very good at putting their patients mind at ease and keeping them comfortable whilst they are in a&e.

Thank you very much for your feedback which has been noted (and apologies for the delay in responding). We’re very glad that your nurse was so supportive and that, overall, you were happy with the staff you met.
